Galaxy is excited to announce Dr. Garry L. Landreth as the keynote speaker for the 2011 Family Matters Conference. Dr. Landreth is a Regents Professor at University of North Texas, and is the founder of the Center for Play Therapy, the largest play therapy training program in the world. His work is internationally known, and he has conducted workshops on play therapy across the U.S. as well as in China, Europe, South Africa, and South Korea. Among Dr. Landreth's numerous publications is the award-winning book, Play Therapy: The Art of the Relationship. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Play Therapy, and is a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor.

Keynote: Garry Landreth, Ed.D.
Michael Flynn, JD, PhD is a licensed psychologist and practicing attorney in Texas. After 25 years in clinical practice as a psychologist, he became an attorney as well. For the past two decades, Dr. Flynn has conducted psychological evaluations and expert testimony for litigants, defendants, and agencies in matters of disputed custody, criminal defense and competency, personal injury, employment disputes and testamentary capacity. Dr. Flynn continues to conduct psychological evaluations and consults with lawyers and the courts regarding mental health issues, as well as providing legal counsel in family law, criminal and other legal matters including representing mental health professionals involved in disputes with their licensing boards.
Abel Tomatis, PhD is a dual-licensed psychologist (school psychology and psychology) in Dallas ISD's Psychological & Social Services Department. He has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, primarily in child and adolescent development and mental health. Dr. Tomatis served as Interim Clinical Director for Galaxy Counseling Center for several months in 2010 and 2011, and is now providing therapy for Galaxy clients. His professional interests include crisis response, community-based outreach, and family therapy with under-served populations.
Steve Armstrong, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S has been teaching and training graduate students and practitioners in sandtray therapy since 2001. He is currently the Interim Chair & Doctoral Program Coordinator and Associate Professor in Department of Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He is also the founder of the Sandtray Therapy Institute and has published several articles in the area of sandtray therapy and play therapy and presented regionally, nationally and internationally on sandtray therapy and play therapy. Dr. Armstrong began developing the humanistic approach to sandtray therapy as a doctoral student and found that blending the two approaches provided an effective method of processing.
Jane Avila, LCSW, ATR-BC is the founder of The Art Station and has over 15 years of experience helping children and adults in a variety of mental health settings. She received her social work degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her art therapy training from the Art therapy Institute in Dallas. Prior to opening the Art Station, Jane worked for 8 years as a child and family therapist at Cook Children's Medical Center. She has served on the boards of the Tarrant County Mental Health Association, All Church Home for Children, Youth for Tomorrow, and the Depression Connection Team. She continues to volunteer in the community and speaks regularly about the benefits of art therapy.
